Geography
British
Columbia is the third largest and western-most province of Canada.
With 95 million hectares of land, the province represents nearly ten
percent of the country by land area and is larger than every American
state except Alaska and 2.5 times the size of Japan. It neighbours
the states of Washington, Idaho and Montana as well as the province
of Alberta and the Yukon and Northwest Territories. With 7000 km of
coastline, BC is approximately 1200 km from north to south and up
to 1050 km from east to west.
Known for its varying topography and freshwater supply, BC is home to the Coast Mountain and Rocky Mountain ranges as well as such major rivers as the Fraser, Columbia, Skeena and Peace. Its freshwater areas total 1.8 million hectares.
