Description

An artist's dream is the undemanding lifestyle and a community of fellow artists in a beautiful and serene environment found on the Sunshine Coast, the 110-mile stretch of BC along Highway 101 just north of Vancouver. This program features the southern portion, the Sechelt Peninsula; between BC ferry slips at Langdale (south) and Earls Cove (north). Here ART is the focus of life and practiced to perfection. Join us on this "Highway to Art," meet a spectrum of artisans and musicians and learn about their challenges and rewards while you experience a unique and special spot of God's Earth.

On field trips to artist’s studios, from the two communities of Gibson’s Landing and Sechelt, we interact with musicians, potters, writers and publishers, metal artists, woodcarvers, multi-media artists, glass blowers and fiber artists. In the contemplative, quiet area of Gibson’s Landing we experience a nautical, lush environment and learn from gallery managers how elements of the environment are reflected in the art displayed. In a field trip to the Elphinstone Pioneer and Maritime Museum learn of the coast’s early history. From the up-beat community of Sechelt we visit the “House of Hewhiwus” for a hands-on workshop of the elements of coastal First People’s art. Experience the mossy rainforest and the power of the tide on a vessel field trip through Skookumchuck Rapids.
