Would you like to explore and learn while you walk in a Mediterranean climate, amidst cultural richness, through charming communities, around biological diversity and thru beautiful rugged landscape? Are you seeking fun and friendship in a non-competitive environment through safe exercise for good health and physical fitness? Join local and visiting Volkssport walkers on south and central Vancouver Island, the largest island on the western side of the Americas, where two Vancouver Island Volkssport Walking Clubs host walks on routes carefully created, measured and rated. Traverse seaside, forest, lake, marsh, historic and view tracks in a region that has become a Mecca for artists and outdoor adventurers. Learn about the growth and development of the international Volkssport movement that began in Germany in 1968. Local experts present island history, the natural history of the unique Gary Oak Meadowlands and the cultural diversity of our Island.



General Information

Start Location: Victoria
End Location: Victoria
Accomodations: Best Western Waterway Victoria, Coast Bastion Nanaimo, Best Western Barclay Port Alberni
Required Equipment: Walking/running jacket, gloves and padded shorts recommended.
Required Skills: Basic cycling skills.
Required Documents: Passport AND photo ID and birth certificate (proof of citizenship) required for entry into Canada and reentry into the USA.
Required Inoculations:
Packing List: Bring comfortable walking or cycling shoes, sleeveless tops for warm days, light wind & rainproof jacket & sweater for cool nights and incase of wind or rain during trip. Bring sun screen, a hat, sun glasses & camera.
Luggage Limits: Please pack carefully as you are expected to handle your own luggage. We suggest that you use luggage with wheels. Laundry facilities located in or close to our hotels are available to refresh clothing and minimize bulky luggage.
