Description

The teeming waters of the Nanaimo River create the surrounding lush farmland and forests and the character of the land and sea shapes our island lifestyle. Historians describe the early settlement of the area. Local artists, commercial fishers and other interpreters talk about the lifestyles and cultures of the inhabitants. Board the train for an historic rail trip to Chemainus for a “Brush with History.” Take a cruise on the Lady Rose through the Broken Group Islands, a pristine archipelago of over 100 rocky islands on the rugged west Coast. In Duncan, learn about Cowichan First Nation culture on a totem tour at the Native Heritage Centre. Sample island wines at a local vineyard and enjoy a picnic lunch at a lighthouse in Ucluelet.

Come share with us the warmth and charm of central Vancouver Island! In Canada's warmest lands, just north of Victoria, surrounded by farm, forest, charming villages, ocean, islands and mountains; we offer a refreshing mixture of heritage, art and cultural diversity. Be delighted by Duncan, "The City of Totems"; enchanted by Chemainus, "City of Murals;" invigorated by the wild wonders of the West Coast. You are certain to find a warm, hospitable atmosphere that's festive and vibrant.
